Growing up in rural Isaan, I never had Christmas or even knew what Christmas was.
After getting married to an American, I learned all about the American holidays and traditions, which my husband wanted to keep in Thailand.
We were able to keep the fact that Santa Claus was real for our son for 13 years before he finally figured it out.
As a boy he looked forward to Christmas more than anything all year.
By laying a Christmas stocking full of presents on his bed after he fell asleep, the intention was if he woke up very early, he would have plenty of things to open and let us sleep a little longer.
Although that did not always work, as he would hoot and make lots of noise when he was excited.
A big western breakfast was always part of Christmas morning with bacon, eggs, pancakes, etc. and plenty of coffee.
My husband would stay up late after our son when to sleep Christmas eve and place all the presents neatly under the tree.
My first Christmas morning with my family will always be one of my most precious memories.
