92,000 Hectares of Land Flooded

91,817 hectares of land in provinces in the Yom, Nan, Chao Phraya, Pasak, Tha Chin and Bang Pakong river basins are currently submerged, including 14,943 hectares of farm land, according to the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA).

The worst-flooded areas are in Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Sukhothai, Phitsanuloke and Ayutthaya provinces.

GITSDA said that it has supplied the information, plus satellite images of the flooded areas, to relevant agencies so they can make use of them for proper water management.

In Bangkok’s neighbouring province of Nonthaburi, several orchard owners in Bang Bua Thong district are complaining that their orchards have been under water for almost three weeks and they cannot afford the expense of draining them.

They also said that some of their fruit trees are now dying and the stagnant water is starting to smell.

One orchard owner said that he has had to pump water out of his orchard every day, to save his durian, mangosteen, pomelo and banana trees.

The National Water Command Centre has issued a warning of waterway overflows and flooding in districts in 13 northern provinces and some districts in three north-eastern and 4 eastern provinces from until Tuesday.

The provinces at risk of overflows and flooding are located along the Kok, Wang, Yom, Nan, Kwae Noi, Pasak, Chao Phraya, Loei, Chi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Bang Pakong, Rayong and Chanthaburi rivers, said the command centre.

People living downstream of main reservoirs in those provinces are also advised to brace for overflows, as water levels in the reservoirs are rising steadily.
