Neglecting Employee Welfare

I read the news today (So the Beatles song goes). A young employee died.

To summarise, the employee requested to extend their sick leave but the supervisor denied the request. The exact nature of the pressure applied by the supervisor is unclear but it forced the employee to work while still unwell. The employee was also denied permission to leave early, resulting in a delayed doctor’s visit and subsequent death.”

When Companies Fail to Prioritize the Well-Being of their Workforce

Companies pay factory workers very little and expect long hours, often 6 days per week.

Many leave their rural homes to relocate near the factories where they work for often only 6,000 thb per month and are lucky to make it back home once a year to see their families.

To say this is anything more than slave labor would be untrue.

Rich factories owners, I believe, despise the lower working class and look at them nothing more than slaves to mistreat and under pay.

There is zero compassion for anything other than profit, for money.

I often wonder how this can happen in Buddhist Thailand, but this behavior is the norm. Taking advantage of the poor and uneducated who need a job to survive, while the owners scoop records amount of profit for themselves.

Is there anything fair anymore in Thailand for the lower class?

I am very sad and feel sorry for the family.
