🇹🇭 The Way It Is

I wonder how many people understand Thailand outside of the cities and resort beaches?

Isaan (Wikipedia Link) encompasses more land than any other area in Thailand, yet, if you are not a foreigner married to an Isaan lady, the chances are you have never been to Isaan or understand the way it is.

Most expats, when you mention Isaan, immediately think of Udon Thani and Khon Kaen.

Both modern cities with plenty of western amenities.

I am talking about rural Isaan.

The Isaan void of any stores or restaurants, comprised 100% of farming and farmlands.

Rural Isaan is a very simple life.

Even in 2022, there are many homes that still do not have running water.

The majority still cook on fire.

Majority own no appliances or furniture.

Villagers do manual labor in the fields cutting rice or sugar can WHEN there is work.

Figures show many of these people live on 2,000 baht a month or even less.

Poverty is the norm here in rural Isaan yet people are content and survive (Although many do pray for more).

Foreigners perhaps do not even know, or have come across many poor Thai people, during their stay’s in Thailand.

After all, they came here for their own better life.
