Here is a very sad story about a 28 year old Thai Doctor dying of stage 4 cancer he believes came from all the air pollution in Chiang Mai.
Although the air quality levels are routinely posted in news across Thailand, expats never seem to pay attention to these warnings. That is why you find so many expats living in Chiang Mai and Bangkok.
I have heard some of the most ridiculous expat excuses.
Oh, it’s not that bad.
I bought a 200 baht air purifier.
I won’t get cancer.
The air pollution doesn’t affect me.
It is stupid reasoning like this that will see an increase in cancer patients in the coming years.
The air is NOT SAFE in these places.
It is not that hard to understand.
Yet no one is moving, willing to risk their lives to cancer.
Years ago China was thinking the same way. Now look across China:
If you don’t think that air pollution will affect your health, you are in total denial.
If you are planning to move to Thailand or you already live in Chiang Mai or Bangkok, I would move to somewhere that the air pollution isn’t going to cause you major expensive health problems in the future.
One reason being is there is no way the govt is going to be able to reel this problem in and clean it up. It will get worse and worse and worse.
