Thailand is my birthplace and my primary residence, but I also have a home in Florida, USA.
The 1,000’s of comments I see from foreigners that love Thailand is kind of crazy.
Not sure what was missing in their lives from their own countries but it must have been something big to have to proclaim your love for a country that you are just a guest?
I suspect people that had a hard time financially surviving in their own country are able to do more in Thailand, but that does not mean it is better. Thailand does not seem to attract the wealthy foreigners.
As a Thai, I never claim Thailand is the best at anything, because it really isn’t.
There is Thai food all over the world that is as good, for example. There are a ton of Thai People living in Florida. I have a favorite Isaan restaurant here in Florida.
Also Thai temples, massage, Thai grocery stores, restaurants and anything Thai you would ever want right here in the USA.
My Florida life is probably way more upscale that living in Isaan.
The quality of life in Florida is also much higher.
Why?
The biggest reason is no stress.
No traffic issues in my town.
No scams.
No air pollution.
Fire, Ambulance and Hospitals within 2 miles.
Easy to call 911 and have medical there in 5 minutes if you need it.
Can grow your own fruit trees and vegetables.
No language issues.
Beaches are much nicer in Florida.
Super easy and cheap to fly to any of the Caribbean islands which are ALL much nicer than anything in Thailand. Aruba is my favorite place ever!
Close to Miami Beach, Key West, Orlando, Daytona Beach which are all world class tourist spots.
The bad news is cost.
Florida and the west are expensive and you need money.
If you have the money and can afford it, the quality of life is much higher and still offers everything Thai.
What draws me to stay in Thailand?
I guess because of my culture and my family. However, I am not trapped in Isaan or staying there 12 months out of the year.
I am also US citizen now and I can come and go.
Not sure what the future holds for Thailand, but always have Florida as a secondary option.
I don’t shout out on social media I love Florida, just like I don’t do that for Thailand.
If you think the third world is greater than where you came from, I don’t really know what to say?
Thailand still puts expats through the ringer for VISA’s.
Thailand still takes money, though no where near as much.
