There is only one important issue when you consider moving to Thailand?
Whether or not you can afford to live like a normal person following all the visa rules.
The #1 issue is money.
Do you have enough money to sustain a life in Thailand over the years with rising costs?
Do you have enough monthly income to meet the visa requirements?
What is the minimum? Some people live on next to nothing (US $1,000) a month although they are not following the rules for minimum income.
US $2,000 per month seems to be the minimum required if you use the monthly income method and do not have 800,000 thb in the bank.
I posed this question to my American husband.
He said to have enough money to buy a house (US $100,000+), new car (US $30,000+), cover visa costs and health insurance. Have money in the bank in the event of emergencies and have a plan B if everything goes to hell in Thailand. This is living like a normal person did in their own country.
His number is having everything (house, car, etc.) fully paid for and have a monthly income of 90,000 thb (US $3,000) per month. Plus you should have a large enough number in the bank if you have to leave Thailand for any reason and start over in another country.
You can always live cheaper by renting a place, not owning a car, etc. but is that really living or barely surviving?
