For 1,000’s of people the dream is to live in Thailand.
The allure of visiting Thailand and seeing all the interesting culture, food, people, etc. draws people into believing that their holiday fantasy can be had everyday for the rest of their lives.
Many people of all ages sell up in their home country, allured by the siren that is known as Thailand.
What the majority never understand or plan for, is that any location in the entire world can get old after you have lived there a few years. Thailand is no different.
I would say if you are retired, have a solid pension and Thailand will be your last stop in life, go for it.
If you can afford to move and live like a normal person in your own place, own a car, and have money to see attractions, go out to eat, travel, you will have a good life.
However, for the young and underfunded, there is a hard lesson to learn about moving to Thailand at a young age. Whether an English teacher or wannabe social media influencer, sooner or later money becomes an issue that dooms them all.
If you do not have the money to live like a normal person, you will soon grow tired of not being able to go anywhere, see anything, eat out, go shopping or travel.
And at the same time of all this misery, you are not saving anything for retirement and your career is stuck in neutral. Thailand is dead space career wise.
The 10,000’s of Youtube videos on how cheap you can live in Thailand are true; sort of.
How long do you think you can survive living in a one room condo the same size as your bathroom back home? How long can you survive on eating Thai street food everyday? How long before the lack of money has you completely bored because you cannot see or do anything or buy anything you want?
It is all true. 95% of all Thai people struggle with limited funds and they have a tough life because of it. If it was so cheap, Thai people would not be financially struggling their entire lives.
Money is king. Better understand that as rule #1.
It is extremely difficult to earn money in Thailand, the kind of money required to live that dream life you experienced on your Thailand holiday.
Many expats have woken up 10 years later to find out, the dream is not the dream with no money.
10 years older, with no career experience gained, they head back home to find a job and start over.
You won’t find any Youtube videos on this shame, but it is the reality of moving to Thailand at a young age and being underfunded.
A cozy life in Thailand costs big money. Year in and year out.
Think hard about it?
If you move to Thailand at age 30 and will live 50 more years, do the math. Understand the costs year over year, increases in everything except wages.
The odds are 99% will not make out. The 1% that does will be male and married to a Thai woman that probably already owns her own land and house. How shameful to depend on that?
Life is hard anywhere in the world.
Moving to Thailand is no escape from that what so ever.
If you do not have money, it won’t be long before Thailand eats you up and spits you out.
Remember, money is king.
No money, no honey!
