The rural Isaan region is the poorest region in Thailand.
There is a huge lack of opportunities outside of farming.
Education is way behind the curve and most kids will never be exposed to the English Language.
Currently, when many kids finish high school, they head off to low paying jobs outside of Isaan, where they can barely survive; but they do, as hard as it may be.
Kids in rural Isaan are happy. You can be happy when you don’t know what you are missing.
Materialism is way beyond their grasp and many are lucky in they grow up with even 1 toy.
They have silently accepted, that despite all their wishes, there will be no wishes granted.
It is sad for westerners, whose houses are often filled with frivolous purchases they will never use, to see kids happy with nothing.
Isaan kids grow up knowing how to use their hands to fix things, grow food, fish, be self-sufficient to get what they need to survive.
In the future these might be the most important skills of all.
When it comes down to surviving, these kids will survive.
The kids will be ok.
