The Escalator of Sadness

The escalator at Suvarnabhumi International Airport is often referred to as the escalator of sadness.

This is due to the fact tourists are on their way out of the kingdom after a fantastic trip.

I am sure after a holiday in Thailand it is very sad to leave.

Also sad for off-shore workers who have to leave all the time.

Sad for those expats that have a Thai girlfriend or family and have to leave to go back to their own countries to work.

Leaving can be sad for 100 different reasons.

Thailand isn’t any different than any other tourist hotspots in the world.

You arrive with a fist-full of cash, see all the sites, stay in nice hotels and eat what ever you want.

However, anyone that lives in Thailand fulltime will tell you that is not the way real life works, unless you have money to squander 365 days a year!

When you live in Thailand fulltime and have to work, it can be quite stressful and miserable.

Ask any of the 50,000,000 Thais working 6 days a week.

If anything, if you enjoyed your holiday in Thailand and are giving though to moving to Thailand fulltime, better have a well proven and though out plan how you can make money to stay.

Then figure out what will excite you day in and day out the next 30 years.

You might find the reality of living in Thailand doesn’t come close to the magic of a holiday.
