Paddy Doyle is a British Youtuber. Before Youtube, Paddy was teaching English in Thailand.
In the past three years, Paddy Doyle has built his Youtube channel up to 245,000 subscribers and paid sponsors.
That is quite a number of subscribers, although some may argue 3 years is a long time to be financially scraping by.
Paddy appears to be making a good amount of money now as he has branched out from Thailand and shot some videos all over the world. (These other countries, in turn, bring in more subscribers).
Paddy does have a long time girlfriend (Miss P) who has a real job, although it has never been mentioned if she had to financial support him in the beginning?
Paddy is still relatively young and has probably 40+ years to go until he can retire.
As of right now, he has no real assets, renting a place, no car and trying to build his Youtube channel even more.
With Youtube, there is NO guarantee how much money you will bring in each month. I think the lack of a fixed, guaranteed income is what has stopped him from getting married or being able to buy a land/house?
Where as people that work in the west build up a pension working their entire lives, there is no pension for Youtubers.
So although this looks fun and travel is exciting, the lack of a fixed income must be stressful?
We know famous foodie Youtuber Mark Wiens has built his channel to over 10 million subscribers, opened a physical restaurant and has reported income in the US $500,000 per range.
It is feasible that he will be extremely well off and able to save a bunch for retirement.
The bad news is with the advent of AI and new technology, will there even be a Youtube 10 years from now and if not, there are going to be a lot of Youtubers trapped in Thailand with little to no income.
I would not want to be betting my financial survival the next 30 years on Youtube.
