Concerned local citizens have tipped of the police on several cases around Thailand involving visa overstay.
Numerous foreigners from different countries have been arrested for visa overstay and working without the proper work permits.
As a foreigner, if you think you are going to get away with taking money away from Thai people by working illegally, you are dead wrong.
The locals will turn you in to the police every time.
- Police arrested a British man in Koh Pha Ngan on May 30 for illegally working as a tour guide, charging foreign tourists 70,000 baht each and enjoying free accommodations in Thailand.
- Two South Korean nationals working illegally as tour guides in Chiang Mai have been arrested by the Royal Thai Immigration Bureau. Thai immigration detained the suspects, identified as 50 year old Han and 41 year old Kim, on a local road in Chiang Mai. The arrests were made after immigration officers received tips from concerned citizens about their illegal activities.
- Immigration police reported receiving a tip-off regarding suspicious foreigners residing at a hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 4, located in the Khlong Toei district of Bangkok. Immigration Police arrested a Syrian Man and Egyptian Woman in Bangkok for overstaying their visas.
- In related news, police arrested an anti-social Austrian man for overstaying his visa by 2 years in the Isaan province of Buriram on May 8 after locals complained that the foreigner repeatedly harassed locals and behaved erratically.
- Thai Immigration apprehended a Japanese national in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district after receiving a tip-off about his illegal stay. The 43 year old man was found to have overstayed his visa.
