Unpaid Wages

It is happening all over Thailand. Large companies are not paying wages and falling 2 to 3 months behind, drawing the ire of the Department of Labor.

It is interesting to note in Thailand, the employees will be the first to suffer.

Companies selfishly expect workers to keep working for free. This is just plain wrong and unethical as these workers depend on their monthly salaries.

The bad news is companies are never forth coming with any advanced notice. The companies tried to hide this fact from the public and the media.

Only when large demonstrations form that catch the attention of the government, is any action put in place and only then, maybe partial payments of what is owed at best.

Perhaps many of the companies depending on subcontract payments, shouldn’t even be in business if they are not liquid enough to pay their employees?

From oil companies, to news and airlines, this practice of not paying employees first is an injustice to the men and women that work hard week in and out to keep the company afloat.

I cannot image the stress these workers go through not having any salary for 2 or 3 months.

It is simply not right and the govt should step in with severe penalties for companies that do this unethical behavior.

It is showing more and more, that maybe there are lot more financially unstable companies in Thailand and that the economy is worse off than being projected?

I hope these workers get paid what is owed to them.

Stories of unpaid wages are very troubling to the future of Thailand.
