In rural Isaan, where the per capita income is less than US $2,000 per year, folks here are not shopping for meat at Tesco.
A local custom is villager’s will financially pitch in together to buy a pig and slaughter it in their backyard.
This is the cruelest thing I have ever seen and I cannot stand to be anywhere near, when this is taking place.
The pig often appears to already understand it’s fate and will squeal hellishly right up to being slaughtered. Something you DO not want to witness.
People in rural Isaan have practiced this for 100 years.
It is their way of life in rural Isaan and something I am sure most tourists would never want to be exposed to.
When you get outside of the holiday/tourists areas and see how local Thai people live and their customs, it will shock you.
