If you are thinking about relocating to live in Thailand, you had better be thinking long term.
It is easy to get to Thailand and survive.
The issue is now to survive long time, like the rest of your life if that is what you had in mind when you decided to move.
99% of the people have no plan beyond moving to Thailand.
Never once thinking, gee, what happens if I am still here 40 years?
Did I save enough?
Did I do anything to qualify for a pension?
Surviving is the easy part. Getting to Thailand is the easy part.
Staying the rest of your life is the hard part and a part most people never think about.
30,000 thb is perhaps the minimum per month you could survive on.
40 years = 480 months
480 months X 30,000 thb per month = 14,400,000 thb or US $423,500 at todays rate.
Do you have a guaranteed financial plan to make $423,500 over 40 years (as the bare minimum to survive for 40 years?)
I would estimate to live like a normal family you would need 100,000 thb per month X 480 months = 48,000,000 thb US $1,411,764 over 40 years.
It seems like an astronomical sum and it is.
What is why most expats work their entire lives before they can financially retire to Thailand with a pension and will ensure their financial needs are met.
If you are thinking about moving to Thailand, better to give some serious thought as to the cost of life here over the next 40 years.
Of course, the baht rate is not guaranteed and it could be even worse than the calculations above.
