If you read the news everyday, even the news on English language sites, you would realize Thailand is anything but perfect.
I personally would rather not be reminded of all the evil things that can happen in Thailand, yet it is a good reminder to stay on the lookout for such behaviors and law breaking events that do happen.
I so much prefer living in rural Isaan where we are for the most part, void of any of these evil deeds and behaviors.
Still, it is good to understand and be aware that Thailand has crime just like anywhere else.
