Life is Hard

Even in Thailand, even in love, life in Thailand is no easier than anywhere else in the world.

It is not one big life-time holiday and you better understand that.

Moving to Thailand and getting married is just the first step on the extremely long journey called life.

I have said it a billion times, it takes money and it takes a lot of money to live a normal life in Thailand.

If you are single and stay single, sure a small condo will suit you fine and keep the expenses down.

However, once you get married, have kids, etc., and you need a house, car, insurance, tuition, life can get as costly as in the west if not more.

International tuition is sky high with the good schools costing around US $30,000+ a year.

When you think about the costs of a normal life in Thailand, yes they can add up and add up quite quickly.

You never want to get yourself into a situation in Thailand where you have to make money to survive, as there are no guarantees.

The majority of the expats that do well in Thailand have already worked and saved their entire lives for this opportunity to retire.

If you are under age 50 and playing games with your visa, you will soon run of luck and have to move on.

Whatever reason you are thinking about moving to Thailand, you should already have answers to basic questions:

  1. Do I plan to live here forever? How much will it cost?
  2. Do I have a backup plan to move home if it doesn’t work out?
  3. Do I have enough money to live like a normal person with no stress or worries?
  4. Can I afford health insurance when I get older?
  5. Do I have a fixed income I can count on?
  6. Can I save and have an emergency fund?

If you get fixated on moving to Thailand for a girl, the weather or some other crazy reason, you better start off with some sound rationale whether or not you can afford it over the long term.

It is not just the money, it is the culture differences, the language differences, the food, etc.

Expats that move away from their own countries, never realize these are the same problems they will face in Thailand every day.

There is no easy road in life, even in Thailand.
