Long Term Considerations Moving

When people decide to make the move to Thailand, they usually have come on holiday and had such a great time, that they immediately want to live here forever.

One experience has them brainwashed.

Sell their western home, all their belongings and move for good.

What the majority do not do, is give ANY long term considerations what can go wrong in Thailand in the future?

Set aside the fact you need to money to last the rest of your life, into retirement and a pension for old age.

As a Thai what concerns me is:

  1. China – A war with Taiwan where Thailand will have to choose a side with countries US, Japan, Thailand, Australia, etc. or will have to chose a side with China. Being Thailand is so controlled and influenced by China, choosing China could have dire consequences.
  2. Air Pollution – AQI readings throughout Thailand have shown readings of the worst air pollution in the world. The bad news is the government only has silly ideas like spraying water into the air to resolve it. Respiratory issues already have 10,000’s at the hospitals. If you want to know how bad it can get, look to Shanghai and Beijing.
  3. Cost of Living – Costs can continue to rise where Thailand is no longer a cheap place to live. We all know salaries never rise, but as seen, cost for food and living expenses can keep rising. With COVID, Thailand learned exactly how dire things can get with no tourism. A war would stop tourism in it’s tracks.
  4. Corruption and Crime – When a govt is focused on lining their own pockets, the problems of the country are never addressed and crime rises. Issues such as poverty, education, flooding, air pollutions, economy never get addressed. You might be surprised how many govt. ministers would be the first to jump ship to their second homes in the UK, Australia and USA.
  5. As a dual Thai/US citizen, that owns a house in Florida, would the future be better staying in the US and only visiting Thailand a few months at a time?
  6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) working against the interest of the people. Yes, this is going to be a real threat in the future.

Things will change and change quickly.

Looking around Bangkok and all the numerous mega-malls the average Thai could never afford to shop in.

Attractions that cost more to get in than an average Thai makes in a day. The Mahanakhon SkyWalk costs 900 baht to get to the top for a view of the city.

People are just so blinded by a one time holiday experience and never, ever think about 5 – 20 years from now.

What happens if Thailand goes to hell and you have no money or place to move to? Or no way to get out of the country?

Be smart, Thailand is still a third world country with third world corrupt thinking.

No one is going to look our for your best interests.

You better have a plan, a real plan, just in case.
