If you are married to a Thai, you can own land (In her name of course).
Some folks won’t want all the work that comes with land ownership and opt for a condo near the beach or in the bustling city.
But for those that want land, you can make your own path just like in the west.
Western house, garden, fruit trees, fish pond, farm animals, self sufficiency!
Always something to do to keep busy in the golden years.
Isaan is like living in the country anywhere in the world, except for the fact is is a very poor region.
You can own a lot of land if you have the money and have plenty of peace and quiet in the middle of nature.
If is a very enjoyable lifestyle and Isaan people are most friendly and helpful.
Cost of goods and labor is ridiculously cheap.
Your retirement check can go a long way, once everything is paid for.
Even living a western lifestyle, a person would be hard pressed to spend more than 30,000 thb a month (If house, car, etc. all paid).
The biggest complaint from expats is life is boring.
I would counter with farm/country life is probably only boring to those that are use to living in the city?
With a vehicle you can always get out and about to do anything you want.
Living in Isaan, there is no stress or pressures you might find in tourist areas or the city.
Nothing to get upset about.
You can still forge your own path and make the life you always dreamed about.
You can also go on vacation to the city or tourist areas if you miss them that much.
But maybe you won’t!
