If you are thinking about taking a minivan and you have to travel on the highways at speed, please think again. There have been 2 crashes in the past 2 weeks where foreigners were killed or hurt in minivan accidents.
One thing you must understand is that you are NOT riding with a professional driver. You may be riding with a driver with no license. These drivers are often LOW educated with zero common sense or safety in mind.
They are extremely low paid and forced to work ridiculous amounts of hours, relying on drugs to keep them going.
The concept of safety or arriving safe is the furthest thing from their mind and you should NEVER put your life in their hands. NEVER!
The Safe Public Transport Travel Project of the Foundation for Consumers, reports that passenger vans in 2018 were involved in 75 accidents, causing 314 injuries and 41 deaths. In 2017 the numbers were 113 dead and 906 injured, and in 2016, 105 people died and 1,102 others were injured in passenger van accidents.
This is a common occurrence in Thailand year after year as profit comes before safety.
It is not worth the risk of dying in Thailand for cheap transportation.
