No Thai girl ever, grew up dreaming she would be working in a bar, selling herself.
However, that is a huge reality of what happens.
Not 100% by choice, but let’s break down some scenarios.
Isaan girls have very low education and therefore no skill to get a job.
Often Isaan girls have already had sex by the time they were 13 or 14.
Money, money, money.
As a foreigner you have to understand the dire economic situations these girls and their families are in.
Average per capita in rural Isaan is US $2,000 per year.
Try living on that with a family of 4, 6, 8!
Girls are dedicated to their families to make money at any costs and help support their parents.
Some know other girls that have gone to the work in the Go-Go bars and hear stories how much money they make.
Others may be sold by their parents.
Yet others may be conned by a Thai Man into a too good to be true job, which ends them up in a Go Go bar.
There are all kinds of reasons, yet we see girls in Go-Go’s all over Thailand. Reports of 50,000 to 100,000 working girls???
Once they are in that lifestyle and making money, it is hard to escape.
There is the 1% that were smart enough to save, save, save and get out.
However, others 1. either are trapped there until they are old and no longer good looking. 2. super lucky to marry a foreigner who will take her away.
Still some get up caught up into the partying, drinking, sex to the point, money is all that matters in the morning. Having the money to buy whatever they want.
Some can thrive working in a bar, others hate each and everyday.
Most, given the chance, would love to find a foreigner to take care of them so they no longer have to work.
In the Go-Go’s there are good girls and bad. Not all good, not all bad.
It is one of the trade offs we see in Thailand, where perhaps a pretty young girl would rather marry an old foreigner, than be in the Go-Go her whole life.
