Thailand is being over-run with young Youtubers, a small few that are excellent at portraying Thailand in a very positive light and the majority which do not do a good job at all.
The mindset they will move to Thailand and be able to support themselves making videos the rest of their lives in lieu of a normal job with pay and benefits, health insurance, retirement, etc. is ludicris.
Who knows exactly what these Youtuber’s qualify for in way of a proper VISA, as they are working and earning in Thailand with no work permit or company sponsorship and the majority, if any, are failing to pay any Thai tax at all?
Is that fair to all the foreign school teachers trying to make a difference to educate the Thai youth? Is it fair to skirt the work permit process, cost, time, effort and avoid paying any tax at all while living in Thailand?
I think it is not fair to those who actually are here working legally.
A question to ask, is what will happen to the majority of Youtuber’s that do not find financial success or stardom? Were they smart enough to save enough money for a trip back home to mommy and daddy’s basement while they look for a real job?
Or, will they become a financial burden for Thailand to repatriate home?
Thailand really should take a serious look at regulating Youtuber’s, ensure they are here legally on a legal visa and paying their fair share of taxes.
A large license fee would help bring in extra dollars for the country.
