Thai people spend a lot of time wishing.
The Pink Elephant Ganesh, wish for good luck.
Float a Songkran basket, wish for good luck.
Send up a Sky Lantern, wish for good luck.
Go to the temple and make merit, wish for good luck.
That is a whole lot of wishing each year.
The truth is, doing all of these activities may bring the patrons hope, but nothing more.
Having hope for something better is always a good feeling, better than no hope or feelings at all.
While these traditions are deeply entrenched in Thai people, the reality is there is no magic for good luck.
Wishes never come true.
A better life is never had, yet that never stops millions of Thai people each year wishing for something better.
Making merit and giving donations with the expectations of good luck and good fortune, are simply not true.
If you pay attention to the real Thailand and people, you can see many are suffering and struggling.
Just once, I just want to wish that all their wishes would come true.
